Next year it will be the privilege and honour of DanceSport BC to host the 2012 Canadian Closed Championships here in Vancouver, B.C.!  During the Easter weekend of April 6 and 7, the national championships will be held in conjunction with the Snowball Classic at the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel in downtown Vancouver.

As such, the Qualifying Events for the 2012 Canadian Closed Championships will be held at the 50th Annual UBC Gala Ball on March 10 and 11, 2012 at The Grand Ballroom in Richmond, B.C.

The 2011 Canadian Closed Championships

Fourteen couples from British Columbia flew to Ontario to participate in ten Championship events on Friday and Saturday. Particular congratulations are due to George Lindholm and Deborah Wong, Canada’s 2011 Senior II Standard Champions. George and Debbie bested a field of 23 couples over four rounds of competition to win the title. As Canadian Champions, they have been invited to be Canada’s official representatives to the Senior II Standard World Championships in Spain.

BC had a strong showing in all divisions and age categories; our results are summarized below.

The 2011 BC Closed Championships

Congratulations also to all our participants in the 2011 Island Fantasy Ball last weeked in Nanaimo. The Island Fantasy Ball hosted the BC Closed Championships. The 2011 Adult Standard DanceSport Champions are Zillion Wong and Sarah Liang, and the Adult Latin DanceSport Champions are Vlad Bohdanov and Maryana Dudchenko.

The 2011 Senior Standard DanceSport Champions are Anthony Chong and Gloria Chien, and the Senior Latin DanceSport Champions are George and Wendy Pytlik.

This 2-Day annual event will be held on May 7th & 8th, 2011 at the Beban Park Social Centre, in Nanaimo on beautiful Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.  This event will crown each year’s BC Closed Champions. 

In addition, this year’s confirmed entries include the following World 10-Dance couples – current Champions, Bjorn Bitsch & Ashli Williamson from Denmark; No. 3 couple Csaba Laszlo & Anna Mikes from Hungary; and No. 5 couple Anton Belyayev & Antoaneta Popova from Canada. 

Come and be part of this spectacular weekend which features a full slate of amateur competitions from Newcomer to Championship level for all age groups from Juvenile, Junior, Youth, Adult to Senior plus Pro-Am competitions, a Showcase of Champions on both days and a gourmet buffet dinner on Saturday evening.

Congratulations to Andy and Wendy Wong of the Grand Ballroom on a staggering 422 entries in DSBC sanctioned events, beating the previous record of 417 held by the 2010 SnowBall Classic. The 17th Annual Grand Ball featured a full slate of amateur and pro-am events, and hosted some of the best DanceSport couples from British Columbia, across Canada, and around the world.

Congratulations as well to all the competitors. Ratings have been updated, and sanctioned competition results as well as updated ratings can be accessed through the ratings page of the DanceSport BC website.
