The DanceSport BC Board of Directors has received a letter of resignation from Carolyn Huggett as President of the Association, effective August 2, 2010. There was no reason given for her resignation. Vice President Pinky Wong has assumed the role of interim President on a temporary basis until DanceSport BC holds its Annual General Meeting on September 5, 2010 at the Travelodge in Richmond. The AGM package and more information on the AGM will follow by mail shortly.

SnowBall’s Future

At the Special General Meeting, requested by DanceSport BC members and held on March 6, 2010, the proposed motion to move the SnowBall Classic to the ice rink at the Langley Events Centre was defeated by an overwhelming majority. Members present and those represented by proxy voted to hold the 2011 SnowBall Classic in downtown Vancouver.

As you may be aware, the entire SnowBall Classic Committee resigned at the 2010 SnowBall event due to unhappy differences of opinion between several individuals on the DanceSport BC Board of Directors and the SnowBall Committee. To date, no suitable candidates have stepped forward to Chair the 2011 event. SnowBall Classic’s future is in your hands. We are currently six months away from the tentative 2011 date of February 4 to 6.

DanceSport BC is calling for a SnowBall Planning Meeting on Monday, August 16, 2010, at or about 6:30 pm. This meeting is open to anyone interested in helping in any capacity with the 2011 SnowBall Classic. Please send an e-mail to pinky@dancesportbc.com if you are interested in attending. Once we have the number of attendees confirmed, we will provide you with a location for the meeting. If you would like to help with the organization of this event, but cannot attend the meeting, please also let us know!

It is with great regret that we announce the sudden passing of our friend and fellow dancer Dominic Chung. On Saturday morning, October 31st, in Hong Kong, during a Viennese Waltz dance lesson, Dominic suffered a massive heart attack from which he did not recover. He was far too young at 62 to leave this life and still had much to give. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Grace and his adult children who are now making arrangements for Grace to return to Canada with his body.

If there is one word that described Dominic (and of course his life partner Grace) it would have to be “classy”. He always portrayed an elegant, caring and distinguished manner. He will be greatly missed in the dance community and on the DSBC Board to which he had recently been elected. Dominic was also a highly respected Professional Engineer and brought the same highly regarded approach to his professional life.

We do not have details regarding funeral arrangements at present but we will let everyone know regarding this in due course. Please hold up Grace and her family in your thoughts and prayers. We are all very fortunate to have known a man of this stature and we will never forget him.
